Numi Hair Salon offers kids’ haircuts for children ages 2 through 12 at our Scarsdale salon. Whether it’s a toddler’s first trim or a style refresh for a pre-teen heading back to school, our stylists are patient, experienced, and trained to work with children of all ages and temperaments.
Every kids’ haircut at Numi includes a consultation with the parent, a shampoo, precision cut, and style. We take the time to talk with your child, keep them comfortable in the chair, and make sure both of you leave happy with the result.
Our team has been cutting kids’ hair in Westchester County for over 15 years. We know that a good experience matters just as much as a good haircut, especially for younger children who may be nervous or sitting in a salon chair for the first time. We keep things calm, friendly, and pressure-free.
What to Expect During Your Child’s Appointment
Here is what a typical kid’s haircut looks like at Numi:
Consultation. Your stylist will ask what you are looking for and take a look at your child’s hair type and texture. If your child is old enough to have an opinion, we listen to them too.
Shampoo. A quick, gentle wash. If your child does not like having their hair washed, we can skip this step and work with dry hair instead. Just let us know.
The cut. Our stylists work efficiently with kids. We know short attention spans are part of the deal, so we keep things moving without rushing the quality of the cut. For younger children who are nervous, sitting on a parent’s lap is always an option.
Style and finish. A quick blowout or towel dry depending on your child’s age and preference. Your stylist will show you the finished result and make any adjustments before you leave.
Most kid’s haircuts take about 30 minutes depending on hair length and how comfortable your child is in the chair.
Kids Haircuts By Age
Toddlers and first haircuts (ages 1-3). First haircuts can be a big moment. Our stylists are patient and gentle with toddlers who have never had their hair cut before. If your child gets upset, we can take a break and try again. There is no pressure to finish in one sitting. Lap sitting is encouraged for this age group.
Young kids (ages 4-7). By this age most kids are comfortable in the salon chair. This is a great time for clean, easy-to-manage cuts: bobs, layered cuts for girls, and classic short cuts or textured crops for boys. Our stylists can recommend low-maintenance styles that look good between appointments and are easy for parents to manage at home.
Older kids and tweens (ages 8-12). This is when kids start developing their own style preferences. Whether your son wants a fade or your daughter wants face-framing layers, our stylists will work with them to find a cut they feel good about. We treat older kids like any other client: they get a real consultation and a cut that is tailored to their hair, not a one-size-fits-all kids cut.
