Partial vs full head highlights: which one do you need?
If you want brightness concentrated on top and around your face with a more natural look underneath, partial highlights are the right call. Type of Partial Highlights
Face-frame highlights (money piece)
Highlights placed around the face only, framing your features and brightening your complexion. This is the fastest and most affordable highlight option. Some clients call it a “money piece” when the face-framing pieces are bolder or more contrasted. Takes about 60 to 75 minutes.
Crown and top layer highlights
Foils are placed on the top section and the crown of your head. The underneath stays your natural color. This creates visible brightness when your hair is down without the commitment of a full head. Takes about 90 minutes.
Partial with face frame
The most popular option: combines crown highlights with face-framing pieces for maximum impact with half the foils of a full head. This is what most clients mean when they book “partial highlights.” Takes about 90 minutes to 2 hours.
How To Maintain Your Highlights
Use a sulfate-free, color-safe shampoo and conditioner. Purple shampoo once a week helps keep blonde highlights from turning brassy. Avoid hot water and excessive heat styling, both of which fade and shift highlight tones faster. A glaze treatment between appointments refreshes your tone and adds shine without a full foil session.
Most partial highlight clients come back every 8 to 12 weeks for maintenance, though face-frame only clients can stretch to 10 to 14 weeks since the grow-out is more forgiving.
